GAFCON & The Anglican Covenant

Written by: Rev. Dr. Andrew Goddard
Monday, July 21st, 2008

One of the most serious questions left unanswered after the GAFCON conference was where the movement stood in relation to the proposed Anglican covenant. That question now appears to have been answered fairly unequivocally in two documents (from the GAFCON Theological Resource Team) on the St Andrew’s Draft Text to which the 7 GAFCON Primates refer in their response to the Archbishop of Canterbury. These are apparently based on pre-conference discussions in Jerusalem.

TEC’s Theological Agenda and TEC’s Strategy for the Lambeth Conference of Bishops

Written by: Rev. Dr. Philip Turner
Monday, July 21st, 2008

Shortly before the opening of the Lambeth Conference (now in progress) the Rt. Rev. Clayton Matthews of the office of TEC’s Presiding Bishops circulated a memo to all TEC bishops planning to attend. It is also critical to contrast the self-understanding of American Episcopalianism with what one finds in the Church of England, where one can of course see kindred concerns for new teaching on sexuality and where one can find allies with the Episcopal causes.

An Open Letter to the Bishops Gathering at Lambeth

Written by: Rev. Dr. Ephraim Radner
Sunday, July 13th, 2008

To the Bishops gathering for the Lambeth Conference:

I write to you personally and openly. I hope that at least some of you will take my words to heart, not because they are mine (which, on their own, would not count for much), but because they represent the mind, I believe, of many in the Communion who are not as vocal in the councils and organs of communication within our church as some.

Lambeth Conference, The Episcopal Church, and The Anglican Communion

Written by: The Anglican Communion Institute, Inc.
Monday, July 7th, 2008

If the work of the Lambeth Conference is in fact to strengthen rather than weaken the Communion in the days and years to come, we are firmly convinced that the bishops there assembled must find ways to address in a constructive manner several key issues.
